Kandukondein Kandukondein, a Tamil musical and romantic film released in 2000, opened to mostly positive reviews and is definitely one of A.R.Rahman's best albums to date. This was the second collaboration of Rahman-Vairamuthu-Rajiv Menon, and the album rights were sold for a record Rs 2.2 crores. 'Enna Solla Pogiarai', a folksy number, got Shankar Mahadeven the National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer. 'Kannamoochi' is a brilliant, romantic composition based on Carnatic ragams Sahana and Nattaikurunji, while the title song is another romantic number based on Nalinakanthi. Smaiyayi is based on jazz music. The album also has a Bharatiyar poem 'Suttum Vizhi' (tuned by Rahman) that's one of my most favorite tracks in the album.
I've attempted 'Suttum Vizhi' (thanks to Sreedhar Ganapathy for the background track) here, hope you like it!
