Kaatril Varum Geethame

When I first heard this song, I just had to sit back and admire the genius of Ilayaraja. For one, he has given us countless masterpieces but here was yet another one in rAgam kalyAnI. I'd call him the King of Kalyani, what with his beautiful compositions like Sundari (Dhalapathy), Amma yendrazhaikaadha (Mannan), Vellai Pura Ondru (Pudhu Kavidhai) and so many more! He can take any rAgam, make 20 compositions in it, and each of them will sound just as melodious and catchy as the first one .. truly amazing!

Coming to the movie, Oru Naal Oru Kanavu is worth a watch. It's a love story by Fazil and is supported with excellent music and a good star cast (Srikanth and Sonia Agarwal).

Here is my attempt at the beautiful Kaatril Varum Geethame, sung originally by four great singers - Bhavatharini, Hariharan, Sadhana Sargam and Shreya Ghoshal.

Song: Kaatril Varum Geethame
Film: Oru Naal Oru Kanavu (2005)
Music: Ilayaraja
Singers: Bhavatharini, Hariharan, Shreya Ghoshal, Sadhana Sargam

katril varum geethamai

en kannanai arivayaa?
katril varum geethamai
en kannanai arivayaa?

avan vai kuzhalil azhagaaga .........aa..aaaa
amutham thathumbum isaiyaga.........aa..aaaa
malaranthai nadanthai.......
alai pol mithanthu

The song wafting through the air...
Do you know my krishna?
His mouth is beautifully placed on the flute...
and nectar flows as music which flowers and walks like the waves...

pasu ariyum-- antha sisu --ariyum
palai maranthu antha pambariyum
pasu ariyum -- antha sisu --ariyum
palai maranthu antha pambariyum

varunthum uyireku .. aa..aaaa.
varunthum uyireku oru marunthaagum
isai..... arunthum mugam malarum arumbaakum
isayin payanil iraivan thaane

The cow, the child and the snake that's forgotten its milk know that
(the trinity in Hindu belief are represented thus)
Music is a medicine to the worried heart.
The face that hears music becomes a flower.
The ultimate goal of music is to attain god.

aadara sruthi andha annai anbe
athukettra layam enthan thanthai anbe
sruthi layangal thannai shuttrum swarangal ellam
uravaga amaintha'nalla isaikudumbam

thirantha kathavu endrum moodaathu
inggu sirandha isai virunthu kuraiyaadhu
ithu pol illam ethu sol thozhi?

Sruthi is the mother and Laya that complements it is the father.
and the swaras that surround sruthi and laya are the relations of this musical family
The open door is never closed here
and this home is never short of a musical treat
Can you name a home like this my friend?

This song (kaatril varum geethame) sounds so much like "Jab deep jale ... " that I thought this was also in yamunakalyani. But you say it is kalyani. Can you please clarify?
Thanks.
